Leaving a bad review - what do you do?

Being a local guide I always feel a bit of responsibility to fairly review the places I visit, so when I have a truly bad experience I feel a lot of guilt leaving a negative review. Particularly when there are some positive reviews.

Do any of you have the same experience? What do you do when you feel like a place should be reviewed negatively?

Well… I just had the same situation. I rated and wrote a review on a restaurant I’ve been some months ago. To tell the truth, I didn’t like it at all. The staff were really unhelpful and me and my wife got really upset. However, the place was quite trendy, there was a nice view to the beach. So I what I did was rate only 2 stars and I wrote: beautiful place.

As a L9 I have posted many reviews and I feel the responsibility of giving an accurate and honest review for any experience. So if the experience is a negative one I feel I must leave a negative review. It’s a story we’re telling of how life intersects with business. It’s the duty of the business owners to learn and respond to our feedback. They should reply to our negative review with honesty and transparency.

It’s also our responsibility to tell our community how our experience was so they know what to expect for their money before they venture into a business. I feel the responsibility to review an place accurately before my neighbor goes in and spends money and is surprised. That’s my duty.

Keep up the good work. It’s hard work but very important. We’re here to make our community better. Doing that you can’t go wrong.

Thank you, that’s a great way of looking at it. It’s hard because I do want to support local businesses, but I do feel very responsible for being honest.
