Laxmi Temple, Orchha.

View of Minaret built over Sanctum Sanctorium, Laxmi Temple, Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Maharaja Orchha Veersingh Dev was not only the patron of architecture, spirituality and Vedicism, but also to ensure that his kingdom always prospered, he built this grand temple of Mata Lakshmi in 1622 AD. This temple has many special features like the owl statue at the main entrance which has been largely destroyed and the square courtyard divided into triangles which is the base of the Sriyantra. Whichever side it is viewed from, it appears triangular. It’s surrounded by corridors. It was renovated by Maharaja Prithvi Singh in 1793 AD. The main sanctum sanctorum is situated on the ground floor on which the hexagonal four storey tower with dome is enhancing its magnificence. There is a chhatri with a peak in Nagara style. There is a staircase to access the first floor and the view from the first floor is very panoramic.
There’s a popular belief that by lighting a lamp in this temple on the dark moonless night of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi is pleased and showers blessings.
Entry is not free and it’s a must visit monument.
