Lane County....History in the works

I’ve lived in Lane County Most of my life. But there is more to know than what I thought there was. I know Eugene is our County Seat, I know University of Oregon is near Downtown, which is the “actual” Eugene City that was Found by our namesake, Eugene F. Skinner. I know that the Ferry Street Bridge runs near where he operated the first ferry service in the Eugene area to cross the Willamette River. Now, I’ve learned theres more this area than i realized. As i post this, I’m still in the exploratory phase of my adventures. I will have at least a pic to give you what I’ve learned. How many of you know of the Gold Rush? Obviously many of you. Did you know there was more to be found in Oregon than in our southern neighbor? Now I’ve learned, back then, that Oregon may have been known for good trappings, lumber and silver, but gold was well founded up here too. Though most of the gold mining may have happened more in the southern parts of Oregon. Much was to be had in the Bohemian Moutains of Lane County. Sometime after Bohemian Johnson Made it known, there was a small town established in the mountains known as Bohemian City. The General store was also the post office as well. Today, many of the mines up there are blown shut or caged off. Much of it due to outside interests and Administative Beurocracy. There is a museum in the nearby town of Cottage Grove called the Bohemian Mine Museum. Members of the mine owners association operate the museum to help educate and enlighten people of that one great part of Lane County History. If more curious, grab a brochure and drive around and look at some of the covered bridges as well.
