Bishnupur is a small town in the West Bengal state of India. This is especially famous for the spectacular Hindu temples which are dated back around 15-16 hundred century. These temples are made of ‘Terracotta’ which is a special type of clay based earthenware or baked earth that are available in this area. Not to mention that there are extensive artworks on these temples which reflect the sophisticated architectural beauty. It also reminds the intellectual capabilities of the people at that time. Some remarkable temples - such as Rasmancha, Shyamrai, Lalji, Madan Mohan etc. - should be visited to experience the beauty of traditional earthenware. The local people in Bishnupur are very welcoming, friendly, honest and helpful; so, anyone can enjoy their trip at this location.
Hello @Enaiyat ,
Thanks for sharing!
These temples are amazing, I would love to see them. Do you live nearby? How can you get there? Is there an entrance fee? Please share a bit more about visiting this beautiful spiritual place.
By the way, I’ve turned the upside-down photos.
Wow! This is an amazing place.
Drop on my bucket list. hihihi
Hi @Petra_M
i am travelling India now and will be here few more days. The place I mentioned is in West Bengal and the train service is excellent here. The transportation cost is very cheap. There is an entry fee around 25 rupees If I am not wrong, which I believe is pretty reasonable. It’s hot now, so be careful that you are hydrated enough to explore.
Hi @futnotecom
Yes, indeed ![]()
Thanks for the information @Enaiyat !
Nice post on Bishnupur. The terracotta work on the numerous temples are awesome. Unfortunately, all over West Bengal, Bangladesh and adjacent Indian states that have lovely terracotta temples much of which are on the verge of ruin. May be in about 50 years only a few will remain. I wonder if Google and local guides can come forward to save some.
Warm regards.
Hi @Gautamda , that would definitely be awesome if some initiatives could be taken from us.
