The annual Lagos city Marathon which started in 2016 had the 4th instalment yesterday, the 2nd of February, 2019. It is believed to have about 4,000 registered runners this year from over 25 countries. This year, for the second time the race is divided into 2 parts. The 42km and 10km run.
This marathon is highly anticipated and with the consistent quality of organisation, the state is building towards making the race improve to a Silver label. The prizes are as follows
Apart from this, there are other prizes for other participants making it quite competitive. The event has attracted people from all types. The professional and ameteur athletes, fun lovers, keep-fit enthusiasts, etc. Every runner is given a number and bib which has a chip embedded to record each runners’ activity.
I have been documenting this event since 2016 as a personal project that I plan to lead to a kaleidoscope project and this year, it was as exciting as expected.
As usual, the event also catered for wheelchair runners as well as cyclers. on the same track however, because of the impressive organising, all types of athletes were taken care of.
In other to encourage participants, especially the non-pros, the organisers arrange a ceremony at the finishing line with refreshments and performance by popular artists. This is also where medals are given to runners.

Wow, this is amazing! Great photos! Thanks for sharing this with us! I’m really happy to see that people with disabilities were able to participate. Do you mostly document these marathons or have you taken part in one yourself?
Hey @AlexaAC I’m glad you like the pictures. And to answer your question, I’m a bit too lazy to run but I walk about 15km along the route, taking pictures as I go. I can’t describe the fun I get out of it. I can’t. It gives me joy really
