Lactation, Location, Navigation: Teaching "Ask Maps" Where the Baby Rooms Are!

Hi everyone! :waving_hand:

Just realized this post was still on the draft , when read @Supriyadevkar post Breast Feeding Room just remember it and here we go!

___________________________________________________________________

World Breastfeeding Week - WHO hWorld Breastfeeding Week may have passed, but for moms, breastfeeding on the go happens 365 days a year! :spiral_calendar:

Beyond medical advice, what moms really need when stepping out is simple, practical peace of mind: knowing where they can find a quiet corner, a clean nursery room, or an accessible ramp for a stroller.

Where “Ask Maps” Meets Real-World Inclusion :speech_balloon::sparkles:

With conversational features like Ask Maps, a parent on the go can simply ask naturally:

“Find a quiet spot nearby with stroller access and a nursing room.”

It sounds effortless, but Ask Maps is only as smart as the data we feed into it. If nobody logs the small amenities, AI recommendations can end up pretty vague. That’s where our contributions as Local Guides make an immediate difference.

3 Quick Ways We Can Help Families on Google Maps :world_map:

Every small detail we map removes real barriers for moms:

  • Mention the details: Call out quiet corners, nursing rooms, nursing pods, mom pods, changing stations, or pump outlets in our reviews. :electric_plug::memo:
  • Snap quick photos: Capture step-free entrances, elevators, and family rooms to save parents the hassle. :camera_with_flash::door:
  • Answer Maps prompts: Take two seconds to tap Yes/No on accessibility and family-friendly questions. :white_check_mark:

A Small Win: Mapping Nursing Pods :round_pushpin:

Adding and verifying dedicated spaces like this, whether in transit hubs, shopping centers, or places of worship, gives parents the confidence to stay active and explore without stress. mall visit can completely save the day for a parent on the go. :sparkling_heart:

Personal tip: when I tried submitting this map edit, it failed multiple times and just wouldn’t go through! Everything looked fine, until I finally realized I had used the word “breastfeeding”, seems to get flagged or filtered by the system. Once I switched the wording to “nursing pod,” it went through immediately and got approved. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Word choice really makes all the difference! :raising_hands:

Hi @NasimJ, thanks for reading! So glad this was meaningful and useful to you.

Iya mbak terima kasih @doc_dells

Thank you so much @doc_dells for sharing this beautiful and meaningful reminder.

Sometimes we don’t notice these small but important details, especially when we are not traveling with little ones ourselves. But for parents, knowing where to find a clean nursing room, a quiet place, a changing station, or a stroller-friendly entrance can make such a big difference to their day. It can bring a little more comfort, confidence, and peace of mind when they need it most.

Its a reminder for everyone here that being a Local Guide is not only about adding places or sharing reviews; it’s also about making Maps more useful, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone.

Keep inspiring us to notice the little things that can make a big difference.

Great @doc_dells I am so happy that you are very incredible and thinking about newborns and their mother’s privacy

Excellent :ok_hand:…
Very well conceived and presented post, dear friend @doc_dells .

As rightly mentioned by our dear CM Morten in another post, once this ‘Catagory’ is introduced in Maps, the search will be more easy.

Your post is very good :+1:
Thanks for sharing
:handshake::sparkling_heart::folded_hands:

@Kumaarsantosh, @Supriyadevkar @TravellerG Thank you for your kind words and support. Beyond everyday reviews, we can work together to make Maps far more useful, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone. :heart_hands:

Thank you for sharing the wonderful insights, @doc_dells, on how our little awareness and contribution can make life easy for mothers with babies who need tender care and attention while outside their homes - in malls and at public places.

I agree that Ask Maps is smart only when we contribute wisely on Maps :+1:
I have noticed several nursing pods in real life that are not reflected on Maps.
This situation should be changed, and local guides can play a pivotal role in enhancing Maps :+1:

Hi @TusharSuradkar, spot on! Maps can have the best AI features, but nothing replaces the sharp eyes of a Local Guide walking the floor. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: Those unmapped nursing pods are absolute lifesavers for parents. Pinpointing their exact floor and nearest landmark in our reviews makes a world of difference. Let’s keep mapping these essential spaces! :raising_hands:

You are very true, dear friend @doc_dells
