Kumbhalgarh A Hill Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort is dedicated to Rana Kumbha. It is an almost impenetrable fort built on a steep hill of Aravali range. It’s near to Rajsamand, Rajasthan, India about 45 KMS and from Udaipur it’s about 80 Kms.
The security wall of this fort comes after the Chinese wall that’s why the wall of this Hill Fort is known as the Great Wall of India.
This fort was built between 1443-1458 AD under the supervision of the famous architect Mandana. It is believed that this fort was built on the remains of an older structure belonging to the Jain prince Samprati of the 2nd century BC.

The fort is protected by several bastions at regular intervals. Entry from the south through Aret Pol (Gate), Halla Pol (Gate) and Hanuman Pol (Gate) can be reached to Ram Pol and Vijay Pol, which are the main entrances to the fort. The grand complex located at the top of the fort can be reached from Bhairon Pol (Gate), Nimbu Pol (Gate )and Paghra Pol (Gate). There is another entrance to the east known as Danibatta which connects Mewar to Marwar region. Important Brahmin and Jain temples within the fort are Vedi Temple, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, Charbhuja Temple, Ganesh Temple, Bawan Deori, Peetaliya Shah Temple, Parshvanath Temple, Golerao Temple Group and other small temples.
Other important buildings include the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, ruins of Kumbha Palace, Badal Mahal, royal chhatris, stepwells and reservoirs. Badal Mahal is one of the most important and attractive buildings built by Rao Fateh Singh (1884-1930 AD).

It takes about three days to visit this inaccessible fort. Tourists are made aware of its history through light and sound shows at Night. There are expensive and cheap options for staying in Kumbhalgarh are available.

Jungle Safari can also be enjoyed in Kumbhalgarh during and after the rains, for which the wild life sanctuary can be thoroughly enjoyed through gypsies and jeeps. Badal Mahal, which is situated on the top of the mountain, can be fully enjoyed from its rooftop to enjoy the unforgettable views all around.
