When I attended my first local guides meeting in November 2019 in Treviso, I decided to organize a similar meeting in Eastern Slovakia, in my hometown Košice.
Basic facts about Košice:
- The 2nd largest city in Slovakia is inhabited by app. 300,000 citizens
- The longest pedestrian zone in Slovakia
- The oldest marathon run in Europe (since 1924)
- The largest cathedral in Slovakia
- European Capital of Culture 2013
The historic center of Košice was fortified by walls until the 18th century. Today it is made up of almost a kilometer long pedestrian zone surrounded by historic buildings inhabited by medieval kings, counts and prominent representatives of the nobility. A center full of legends and stories, palaces of rich nobles alternate with houses of craftsmen, churches, squares and narrow streets that ask the views of passers-by. The exhibitions reveal a huge piece of the city’s history, science, culture and art.

After the tasting at about 6 pm we move to the lounge for dinner, where we taste specialties of Slovak and Hungarian cuisine. Of course there will be Tokaj wine for dinner.
