Korean Army Stew? Budaejjigae (영어로 읽는 부대찌개) [테이스티코리아]

Budaejjigae (부대찌개, Korean Army Stew) is kind of sausage stew made with ham, sausage, spam, baked beans, Cheese, kimchi and so on. The reason its name is Korean Army Stew is it was created naturally just after Korean War. In 1960, US Army Base was located in the center of Uijeongbu and people who lived around the base got surplus food from US Army. But most of their food were not that familiar to Korean people, so they put together all the ingredient into the stew. They added kimchi, mushroom, tofu, and even Korean noodle. It continued to be very popular even to US Army people. Even though it has sad history, it is still one of the Korean’s favorite food.

You will be surprised when you visit Budaejjigae Street in Uijeongbu. Uijeongbu is the city the dish was first made, so all the restaurants on the street are selling budaejjigae. Oden Sikdang has the original taste of the 1960 Budaejjigae, so if you want to try it Just go and Enjoy it.
