The construction of this Kopeshwar temple may have started during Chalukya rule around seventh century . Later in the 11th-12th century this work was completed during the Shilahar rule. The Yadavas of Devagiri are also recorded to have contributed to its construction. Its architectural style is similar to Belur, Halebid in the south.
Not only inside but also outside this vastu is full of beautiful carved arches. Along the entire circumambulatory route there are outlined human figures about five-six feet high, displaying various emotions. Elephants are carved on all sides near the base of the temple. On both the north and south sides, however, a Nandiwaja figure is seen. It can be seen that a couple is sitting in a chariot. There is an ancient inscription outside the south door of the auditorium. The inscription still remains, battered by heat and rain.
