Kolomna--is the oldest Russian town.

Hello dear friends,

Yesterday I visit one of the oldest Russian towns–KOLOMNA.

City Kolomna -842 year. It is an ancient and unique city. Unique architecture, preserved houses and mansions of merchants, you can leisurely stroll through the beautiful street of the city, introducing yourself at the beginning of the last century. Plunge into the Russian antiquity,

visiting numerous museums of Russian life of the last century.

The Kolomna Kremlin is an architectural ensemble Dating back to the 16th century. Previously, in its place was a wooden Kremlin, which served a defensive function. At that time, the Moscow Principality was forced to defend its borders from the Crimean Tatars. Buildings made of wood was easy to burn, and for a long time to resist the assault of enemies they could not. In 1525, the construction of stone walls began. It lasted about 6 years. In total, 16 towers were built, and the walls were more than 20 m high.
Now there are 7 towers and walls of the Kremlin, the thickness of which exceeds 4 m. the Architectural complex has Italian features.

The town has retained its unique appearance. Old mansions of merchants of the last century and houses of ordinary citizens. Graceful carving craftsmen decorate houses. I admire this unique ,beautiful houses.

Interesting history of the tower - “marinkina”. Here Marina Mnishek was imprisoned in the last period of her life. The tower was built in the middle of the 16th century on the Western side of the Kremlin. She has 20 faces, its height is 31 m and a diameter of approximately 11 m by 7 floors of the towers are loopholes, and on the 8th – the two-horned teeth. Marina Mnishek, who became the wife of first false Dmitry the First, and then recognized her husband false Dmitry the Second, was crowned as the Russian Queen. After the death of false Dmitry II, Mnishek claimed the throne on behalf of her young son. But the son was executed, and Marina imprisoned in the tower, where he died in 1614. According to legend, the woman turned into a bird and left the tower. However, there are still hidden treasures here.

Kolomenskaya pastila — one of the symbols of the city
The Museum is located in an old building next to the Kremlin. Here before there was a shop of merchants Suranov where traded sweets. And today, coming to the Museum, you can feel the unique atmosphere of the 19th century. Here you can learn a lot about the history of the manufacture of pastila, its various recipes, see the old posters and packaging popular Goodies.
Girls-guides dressed in old costumes, guests will certainly be offered to taste the candy.I enjoyed visiting the museum of pastila.

Nice pics! I love very much these wooden houses! And good pastila!

But where is it written about the oldest town? It is “one of” for sure. But it seems to be the same age as Moscow that’s wasn’t the first. And I heard Derbent was the oldest one or wasn’t it?

Hello @Saint_Sennheiser

Kolomna is 842 years old,Moscow is 872 this year.

Sure Derbent is considered the oldest city in Dagestan.

I visit Kolomna with tourist group some days ago.

@helga19 @Saint_Sennheiser I’m sure no one wanted to hurt anyone! I’m sure that the problem is misunderstanding, because both of you write in a foreign language.

Check out Russia’s most ancient cities (we talking about central region of European part of Russia only):

  1. Veliky Novgorod (8th century)
  2. Rostov Veliky (9th century)
  3. Murom (9th century)
  4. Smolensk (9th century)

Kolomna was founded in 12th century only. Surely is not the oldest, but one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of the Moscow region. :^)

From Russia with , Sergey

Yes, I meant the whole modern territory of RF, not in any of historical times. And I thought maybe there’s a local myth about the age of Kolomna. You know, all that Third Romes, mothers and fathers of Russian cities etc.
I’m sorry if my note hurt you, I didn’t mean it.
