Late last year (2019) we were to attend a wedding ceremony of my cousin. After being given the name of the venue. I needed to know how far the place was. Also, I needed to know the way to the venue. Oft times, I have used google maps to get directions. This gives me ample time to plan. By using google maps, I know the way. Even though I have not been to the place.
This time I searched the venue in google maps. I could not find the place! It dawned to me how important it is to have directions’ information. I did the manage to get to the venue. This was after making several phone calls, to who knew the way. This time I did not know the way.
Years ago, when I made my first post in google maps. I had never heard of local guides. What happened, is that I noted that some important places were not showing in google maps. My aim was to help other people, to be able to get the information they needed. Quick and accurate.
As I continued to add places, and times add pictures of the places. I noted that points where being awarded for each post. This was both exciting and encouraging. The contributions I made to the google maps, were not driven by the points. It was by assisting someone else, to get the information. It is always pleasure to see the message, ‘Your photo/your added place is making a difference’.
Over the years I have added information of missing places. This has been without much ado, not even telling others about the what I have added.
To me, local guides program will remain to assist providing correct information. This will help those in need be able to know the way.
