"Know My India Road trip

Planning a road trip from Kottayam (Kerala) to Leh in July. The route is Kottayam - Bangalore - Hyderabad - Nagpur - Agra -Ludhiana - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh - Manali - New Delhi - Indore - Pune - Goa - Mangalore - Kottayam. Total 8000 Kms will be covered in 18 days (Maruti Swift AMT). Suggestions and advice welcome.

I have created a detailed route itinerary showing the route map, distances and duration, hotel accommodations with contact nos. If anyone is seriously interested, I am happy to share.

That’s an exciting idea @Shibu_Mammen

I do make long road trips and hence wish to share my experience.

  1. Covering more than 800 km at a stretch even with two persons driving the vehicle becomes too tiresome.
  2. Run-flat tyres are ideal. However, tubeless radials, tyre pressure monitoring and an electric compressor can substitute that.
  3. There should be at least two mobile data service providers. Further, as per my memory, only BSNL works in Ladakh.
  4. Similarly, have alternate apps for the navigation too.
  5. A HUD display for the map to project on the windscreen would be a useful accessory. Also, the use of a dash-cam will help in recreating the memory.
  6. I faced a problem of attempted burglary by breaking off one of the window panes. Locating an authorised service station having that as spare, became a nightmare.
  7. A jump start kit would be a good accessory.
  8. A vehicle with higher ground clearance is desirable through the Rohtang pass. Still, there are stories of crossing that through Swift.

Wow! That’s a very big plan for 18 days in India (I think so) are you sure you can cover all of those places in only 18 days?

I mean, just remember to stop, breathe, and enjoy the moment and the beauty of every place… Personally, I like to go with not too much pressure about planning, but if that works for you, go for it! and share photos!

Thanks.
