Kite Season in Sri Lanka with Local Guides

Season of kites in Sri Lanka was so fun as before but more than last years.

Even after twenties, yes it’s continuing the craziness. With my busy schedule of works, spending more time on kite was bit difficult. This time got new idea thanks to one of my closest localguide friend Amila. So, this time theme was Local Guides Kite. And @NiroshaJ (wife) given me great support to get this done.

Idea become a beautiful kite after more than 6 days of hard working. This time kite height is more than 6 Feet.

I and Amila only do local guides but other friends don’t know what localguides is and what the theme is. Theme was hidden to other friends and we made kite like we do before times. When making cover only friends got to know the theme and many queries about localguides.

Totally while color body and orange color localguides stars over the kite with tails made this kite more unique.

It’s done. And now localguides kite ready to fly. Transportation given by one of my Tuk friend by hold kite on the roof of Tuk. This model of kite calls in Sri Lanka is “Monara” (Meaning is Peacock).

All gathered to a ground in an evening and after few times of trying, finally Local Guides Kite “Monara” touched the sky. Next become questioner time like I and Amila expected. More people who came to ground to fly their kites asked what this is and what is the meaning of logo and many. Yeah, it was like a meet up of knowledge sharing and so fun because our kite highlighted over the sky.

Finally craziness of kites ended like never before with more memories. Specially need to thank who was with me from the beginning Amila.

And my friends helped me lot but not in Local Guides Connect: Maduranga Pelpola, Sameera Indunil and Akila Roshitha

Crazy about kites

Season of kites in Sri Lanka was so fun as before but more than last years.

Since childhood, kites season is one of favorite time in my leisure time. I can remember one time my dad made a kite using shopping bag because I don’t know how to made one. I hold the thread and ran around the home more than 20 times. Later every kite season my daily activity was that. Then I made kites myself and with my friends. We tried different patterns and sizes kites.

Even after twenties, yes it’s continuing the craziness. With my busy schedule of works, spending more time on kite was bit difficult. This time got new idea thanks to one of my closest localguide friend @Amila . So, this time theme was Local Guides Kite. And @NiroshaJ (wife) given me great support to get this done.

Hi @IsurangaD .

Thank you for sharing with us your experience. I have got fond memories from childhood when my cousins would teach me how to fly a kite. On the other hand, would you happen to know where I can find a Monara kite?

P.S: This is one of our version of kite, it is called sáo diều, as it is equipped with the traditional Vietnamese flute and it would make melodic sounds when it catches the wind.
