Kids friendly Warsaw, Polen

Hey guys,

here is a blog post on anpther European city, we visited this summer with our toddlers: Warsaw, Polen.

Many our friends were confused by the choise of our destination. Many people tend to think, that city trips with kids are stressful and small children dont get the fun of exploring anything exept a sea and a beach. Well, either our kids are different or the things are not that bad.

We love exploring new cities with our kids, they are always fastinated by all the traffic (as we live in a very small village) and by cool playgrounds we always manage to find no matter where we are. And for us, well its not the same speed you are getting around when you have two toddlers with you, but it is huge fun to see the world through their eyes, to slow down to watch the details and to visit places you would never go to if you dont have kids!

So come over to Warsaw with us this time!

On one hand Warsaw is very children friendly, as you can take the stroller to any bus and the pedestrian area is huge. On the other hand it is a disaster to travel with a stroller in a case you want to use underground - there are just no way other than many many many stairs to get down and then up again. Also on big crossroads you have to use underground tunnels to get to the other side of the street. Some have elevators - small, slowly, durty and stinky. On some streets you are on your own to use the stairs. So often we had to walk further to the next traffic light to avoid getting underground just to cross a street.

Our sweet local guide on his way:

The old town is fun for children, who love walking. Many narrow streets to explore and magnificent architecture! The male part of our family team explring the surroundings:

All buses are made for wheelchairs and strollers. Thats a huge relief once travelling with children:

We visited the interractive Money Museum (Link) from the Central Bank. Entrance is free of charge, almost everything is wheelchair/stroller accessible. The museum is huge fun, we were lost in time there and none of use four wanted to leave!

Below I will post links to the list which helped us to get around. Here is a photo of a cup of coffee of a local coffee branch. Its not especially made for kids, but it is made like a libriary and our kids loved to browse books, so it was a great place for us to have some rest from sightseeing

In Warsaw we visited the best playgound (Link) we all have ever been too. And believe me, I have been to quite some! It was huge and there were so many various attractions devided in different areas, each had a recommended age range. Even if I thinkg sometimes no one playground is worth to travel so far and spend so much money on accomodation, this one made me doubt my belief :slightly_smiling_face:

As our children are (very) early birds, we managed to be at this playgound early in the morning. Other people usually came after 10 am and after Midday there were basicall no empty square meter

Now, if you have two kids you will understand how brilliant the idea of this swing is. Just that simple. Just that brilliant!!!

We also visited the Palace of Culture and Science (Link). Although it welcomed us with an elevator and at the beginning looked like quite wheelchair / stroller friendly, there were always a couple of stairs inbetween you get to the next elevator. On the top get ready to be fascinated by top views! There are also a lot of beach chairs, so our kids loved the place and playing around. On the roof level there is a public toilet free of charge.

Nice Cream Factory (Link) is a place where your kids will patiently wait in a queue. Its because each and every ice cream is made to order, so you can stand there and watch the process of making ice cream from the very basic incridients for hours! Beside that, the ice cream is delicious and portions are just huge!

A fun place to visit in Warsaw is the Science Museum (Link). We didnt go there as we have a very similar one in the near from Zurich. But there is a beautiful garden open to the public on the roof of this museum. Another roof garden you will find on the top if the university libriary. Our toddlers loved the place as we did

Hi @KseniaM ,

Thank you for sharing this post. Warsaw seems really cool city to visit. I’ve only been there a long time ago so I don’t have a vivid memory of the place and it has changed so much during the years.

I would love to visit Poland again. Did you go to other cities in Poland? How long did you stay in Warsaw?

@meshworx it was indeed! looking forward for the next one!

@DanniS thank you for your comment. Polen has been actually on my travel wish list for ages. So this trip was like a sneak peak and we will definitely return to explore more of this country. Luckily, its not that far from Switzerland where we live. We spent in Warsaw six days ( I think this time a travel couple without kids would need to see most of Polen, but well, time flies different when you have toddlers with you :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @KseniaM ,

thank you for this great post about this beautiful city (nice photos btw), I just passed once very quickly but not had yet any opportunity to visit the city but I’m sure it is a very nice one. Nice remarks also about the “kids friendly” aspects.

@KseniaM Unfortunatelly I haven’t written about these cities yet,but please check my post (link below) with photos “Castels in Poland”,showing more nature places between Cracow and Częstochowa. I recommend you go there in spring or summer as this is outdoor activity and good weather is important in this case. For now you can enjoy Christmas Market in Wroclaw or Cracow- it’s fun for kids, too! You can check my photos on Instagram @tequilapolaca, where I post photos from my travel.

I’ve post on Google Maps a list of interesting places to visit in my city, Bielsko-Biała. I hope you can find it on my profile.

Take care

There are many more beautiful towns to discover in Poland. Krakow and Gdansk are both must visits. But as well Wroclaw or Poznan, Czestochowa and Lublin are very beautiful.

I will visit the Christmas Market tomorrow in Krakow. Hope I will find to write a post about this.
