By the way, Pakistan is full of countless natural resources, and the salt mine at Khewra is one of them,It is the second largest in the world.

This mine has great historical importance and consist of mind blowing Natural scenes.
The Khewra Salt Mine, located in Jhelum District, is about 165 km from Islamabad and 245 km from Lahore.
There are also billions of years old Cambrian Period fossils found, the world’s second largest salt reservoir
is 300 km in length and 8 to 30 kilometers in width and the height of salt mountain rang is from 2200 to 4990 feet, Where there are still 21 million tonnes salt reserves.

These salt mines have been declared a geological museum. Its current production is 3,70,000 tonnes per year. This salt can fulfill the needs of Pakistan for next 60 years approximately. This salt is also exports to India and other countries.
Salt was discovered in Khewra about 2340 years ago, when Alexander the Great passed through the Taxila
and reached on the Jhelum River.Where King Porus was waiting for him with his army and elephants. Sick horses of both armies were found licking the rocks here with their tongs. Which revealed the presence of salt here and since then salt extraction has been going on.

Salt extraction was started in 1849 on scientific grounds. In the British period of 1872, A mining engineer
Dr. Warth, excavated Here a large mine that is still active today. Currently, salt is being extracted from seventeen Stories(floors), But tourist access is limited up to one floor only about two kilometers long.

Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi on March 12, 1930 carried out his twenty-four-day famous "salt march

during the British rule Against the British occupation,
when this march has ended He said by raising the salt in his hand."I have marched only for this salt because the salt is ours but it is occupied by the British Government.

In the Mine always temperature remains same 18 degrees Celsius each season.When entering the mine, every one surprised to see the natural charisma,

hundreds of feet deep saline water ponds, rainbow-colored walls, Minar Pakistan, Assembly Hall, Glass Palace , Crystal Palace, Salt Mosque, Salt Bridge, Pure Sodium Chloride crystals. The salt terrace and view of the ceiling mirror in the ponds may amaze you.

There are also a hospital for asthma patients has also been set up where the number of patients is not too much due to the lack of information.

@Muhammad_Usman This is the first time I am seeing the inside of a salt mine. Thanks for sharing this. Now I know where most of the red rock salt we use for cooking and making lamps come from. Some people say that salt from inside the earth like this is more beneficial vs white salt from the sea.
