Keeping up with natural and urban changes!

The world around us changes at quite a pace … urban changes being new roads laid, buildings erected and properties subdivided. Hopefully the natural changes are somewhat slower, else the effects of climate change and erosion are as bad as expected.

Sometimes the changes to natural features are for the best and occur overnight.

This is the case for one of the Newlands Dams … originally listed as “UCT Dam (restricted)” and marked as a fishing pond … the progressive Cape Nature Conservation Agency has opened it up officially for picnicers to enjoy a sunbath and swim - particularly useful as the closest cooling off spot in Southern Suburbs before the ocean since the drought closed the local public pools.

Being able to update this on Google Maps and keep the information posted on Maps as current and valid as possible is my privilege and joy as a Local Guide.

Cape Town is a trendy hub of new eateries and cullinary hotspots and with the artisanal / craft movement picking up steam a number of new craft beer and wineries are popping up and these small business listings benefit from being on Google Maps with up to date and relevant business details.

Being on the ground, in this area as a Local Guide, I’m presented with the opportunities to make these updates and maintain Google Maps as a dynamic and relevant first port of call when searching for local activities. We’re fortunate to have almost all urban roads mapped out accurately but there is always scope to update these changes as the world around us evolves.
