Kaup Lighthouse & Beach – A Coastal Gem of Karnataka

Kaup Lighthouse is one of the most iconic landmarks in Udupi district, Karnataka. Built in 1901 during the British era, the lighthouse stands about 27 metres (89 feet) tall on a rocky coastline overlooking the Arabian Sea. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase to the top and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the sea, Kaup Beach, and the surrounding landscape. It is especially popular during sunrise and sunset and remains a favorite destination for photographers and nature lovers.

The lighthouse is open to visitors from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM (subject to weather conditions). The entry fee is ₹10 per person, making it an affordable attraction for everyone. It is advisable to visit in the evening to enjoy the cool sea breeze and stunning sunset views from the top.

Kaup Beach, located beside the lighthouse, is known for its golden sand, black rocks, and peaceful atmosphere. It is an ideal place to relax, take a walk along the shore, enjoy the sea breeze, and watch the beautiful sunset with family and friends.

Visitors can also find facilities such as parking, restrooms, seating areas, and food stalls near the beach, making it a comfortable destination for a short coastal getaway.
