Kathmandu World Wide geo Walk Hello everyone we will visit Jal binayak temple and Taudaha Lake area. Jal Binayak is situated 10km away from Kathmandu valley on the bank of bagmati river in chobhar. It is a temple of lord Ganesh a deity in Hindu. And Taudaha is a lake in walking distance from Jal Binayak Temple.
Once there was a lake that covered entire Kathmandu valley. Manjushree, an avatar of Saraswati, the Goddess of Wisdom, cut a gorge open in chobhar to drain the lake. All the rivers and lakes of the Kathmandu valley are believed to exit the valley via Chobhar. When the lake was drained, countless nagas, mythological creatures that were half human and half serpent were left homeless. This made the Naga King Karkotak livid. In order to allay his wrath, the locals build a lake which is known as Taudaha inside which they built an underwater palace, studded with precious stones and riches beyond imagination.
Snakes are considered very auspicious in Nepali culture and are believed to be closely associated with rainfall. To prevent the drought that would surely occur if the snake escaped, Jal Binayak, an avatar of Lord Ganesh, showed Manjushree where another smaller lake in the valley could be made for the nag to dwell. The Serpent King was pleased and ruled his serpent subjects in their underwater kingdom. The king also promised to protect the humans living around the lake, on the condition that the tranquility of his water abode never be disrupted. It is due to this that even today locals do not swim or fish in the lake.
We will be adding places taking photo and simply will be enjoying the nature on auspicious day of Rishi Panchami.
