Hi @IshantHP_ig

Kindly note thata Kariba dam was created across the Zimbabwe-Zambezi boarder in the early 1960s to provide hydro-electric power to the two nations.

When it was completed many people lost their homes and thousands of animals had to be rescued when Lake Kariba was created.

The lake covers an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometers is a wildlife paradise with crocodile and hippo as well as some of the world’s best fishing, especially the tiger fish.

The concrete arch dam wall is 128 metres high and 633 metres along the crest. The Kariba Dam is a double curvature concrete arch dam in the Kariba Gorge of the Zambezi river basin between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Construction cost: US$480 million

Construction began: 1955

Annual generation: 6,400 GWh (23,000 TJ)

Total capacity: 180 km3 (150,000,000 acre⋅ft)

Wow! That means Kariba Dam plays a very vital role for the generation of electricity because it has a huge amount of power generation.

What are some other sources of producing electricity other than Hydropower in your country?

Is thermal/solar sources are available ? @Nicpru

@IshantHP_ig

Besides, Kariba Dam, we have Hwange Colliery that has vast coal reserves. It has very huge thermal plant that used to supply themal electricity in Zimbabwe.

@IshantHP_ig

Besides Kariba Dam, we have Hwange Colliery that has vast coal reserves. It has very huge thermal plant that used to supply thermal electricity in Zimbabwe. The plant is down due to the economic situation prevailing in Zimbabwe. There are 5 other thermal power plants in major towns which are also down.

Things are down because of the current prevailing political and economic situation.

In Gwanda, a low veld area, with flat land, solar power plant project was established but also failed.

We also have a recently built dam which almost the same size as Kariba called Tokwe Mukosi Dam that supplies irrigation water for sugarcane plantation. Plans are place to setup a hydro electric power plant.
