Many of the earliest examples of Cinnamon’s hydraulic civilization are in Mihintale, with its quiet, beautiful woodlands and bolder clad surroundings. Also, the monastic building provided an ideal basis for the construction of a network of impressive irrigation channels using both natural and artificial waterway ponds.
It is the largest of the swimming pools located on the western slopes of Mihintale. Many experts think that the ancient Porodini pokún described in Mahinda IV’s tablets may perhaps have been Kaludiya Pokuna.
Kalu-Diya pokuna means black water bowl, literally translated. The name has evolved in the light of the dark reflections of trees and blocks in the surrounding woods and mountains, and it is most often accurate to characterize it.
The complex of well-planned buildings around the swimming pool is a witness to a new hydraulic culture, with artificial moats running through a few houses.
