During last summer we have went to Shimla.
From Kalka to Shimla we went through the Toy Train facility provided by Kalka Shimla Railways . The journey starts from Kalka Railway Station. and ends at Shimla Railway station.
Shimla Railway station the UNESCO- recognized railway line will be offering first-class train journeys on a vintage, single-carriage rail car.
Converted into a 14-seater daily express special, the rail car will travel from Kalka to Shimla in about 4 hours and 20 minutes and return on the same day.
Train no. 04505 will leave Kalka at 5.25 am, stop in Barog at 7.05 am and reach Shimla by 9.50 am.
For the return leg, train no. 04506 will depart from Shimla at 11.40 am, stop in Barog at 2.10 pm and arrive in Kalka by 4.30 pm.
It is an heritage railway. Started by the British over 100 years back. It is an enjoyable journey.
Train passes through 102 mountain tunnels and through pristine forests. The first-class railbus with a glass roof and a front view begins its journey from Kalka.
It climbs from 500 ft altitude at Kalka near Chandigarh to over 6000 ft altitude at Shimla, the Capital of Himachal Pradesh.
The narrow gauge (30 inch) railway from Kalka to Shimla opened in 1903 and was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2008. With spectacular scenery it is a memorable trip. The 96 km line passes through 102 tunnels and there are 33 major bridges.
The Kalka (KLK)-Shimla (SML) rail runs through a breath-taking scenic route. Its the way to go for train enthusiasts, people who want a ride on this heritage train or for those who love the scenery.
The tiny stations that you pass on the route are also beautiful.
For some youngsters who were raised in cities, it will be a chance to see the old fashioned way where the driver exchanges rings with each station as he passes.

- Himalayan Queen: Connects at Kalka with the express mail of the same name and the Kalka Shatabdi Express to Delhi.

- Rail Motor: First-class railbus with a glass roof and a front view
- Shivalik Queen: Ten-carriage luxury fleet. Each carriage accommodates up to eight people and has two toilets, wall-to-wall carpeting and large windows. Available through IRCTC’s Chandigarh office.
