Janat Paris is one of my favorite tea brands.
Not only is it a tea that tastes good, but the packaging is also cute.
The logo of the company is two cats facing each other, and there is a drawing of a slice of Bergamot printed on my favorite Earl Gray Tea packet.
The Darjeeling tea package has an illustration of black tea leaves and the cats logo.
So by just looking at it, I feel happy even before drinking my tea.
Unfortunately, the tea is not sold in supermarkets or drug stores.
I can buy it online, but I prefer buying it at a store called KALDI COFFEE FARM.
It’s not a farm, but a store that sells coffee beans, tea, sweets, juices, and other food items.
What I like about this shop is that there is a coffee tasting service.
A clerk makes coffee in front of the shop and offers customers the day’s coffee for free, so you can look at the products in the store while drinking coffee.
They prepare a cold coffee in summer, and a hot coffee in winter.
And the store sells special things on Cat’s Day.
Cat’s Day is a memorial day established in 1987 by the Japanese Cat Day Executive Committee and is set on February 22.
Why is it February 22?
In Japanese, the number 2 is “ni”.
And to Japanese people, the squealing sound of cats can be heard as “Nya” or “Nii”.
On February 22, is “Ni ni ni” for us, so people decided it should become Cat’s Day.
On February 22, KALDI sells an item called “Cat’s Day Bag” every year.
In a cloth bag with an illustration of a cat, there are a lot of cat goods such as JANAT tea cans, which has cats as a logo, sweets with an illustration of cats, a cat desk calendar, and cat shaped memos, etc.
This bag cannot be booked in advance.
It is sold on the Internet, but many people had to buy it in the store because it was difficult to connect to the online store for an hour after they started selling them, and they sold out in a couple of hours.
When I went to the nearest store to buy one after work, it was already sold out.
I would have given up if I only wanted it for myself, but my sister had given me money and she was looking forward to get the bag.
So I called all the KALDI I could reach, but they were sold out in most of the stores.
But fortunately, there was a store that had only one left in stock.
It was a store in the town of Kichijoji, but it is located far from the station.
All the shops near the station were sold out, so it was lucky for me that the shop was inconveniently placed for most people.
I ran to the store because when I called, the clerk told me that they couldn’t reserve it over the phone.
Fortunately, I could get the last one.
The sweets and tea were all delicious and the bag was reusable, so they were very good products.
But next year’s Cat Day, if I have to work, I should take a day off and go to the shop in the morning.
