Kalar is a city in Kurdistan Region located 34°37′45″N 45°19′20″E

Kalar is the administrative center of the Garmyan district. It lies 135 km Southeast of Sulaymaniah and 40 km from the Iranian border which is called (Parwez khan international Border). Kalar has a population of around 250,000 - 300,000 residents. Kalar takes pride in its historical background. Several small towns are connected to Kalar administratively. Kalar is located on a large plain area embracing many historical sites related to different periods; including sites that were built in the BC, AD, and Islamic periods. Sherwana Castle is a symbol of Kalar city built by Mohamad Pasha jaff between 1856 - 1866.
