K41 dive site on the north coast of Timor-Leste

A wonderful dive/snorkel site with an easy sandy/small stone entry. It is also known as K41 (It is 41 kilometers east of Dili on the north road). Great for beginners to review their skills in the shallows before continuing on the dive. The site offers a combination of sand dwelling critters and coral cover. There is a wonderful wall on the East side of the site where all kinds of critters come out at night to play. Probably the best night dive location of all the sites near Dili. Two cool critters you can encounter at night are the zebra anemone and the parrotfish. The anemone is closed up during the day but will open up and spread its tentacles at night to feed by catching food particles as they go by. The parrotfish hide in nooks and crannies in the coral and form a slime sphere at the entrance to serve as a danger detection device. Once a potential predator touches the slime, the parrotfish senses and can wake up and flee. If you are really quiet and do not move too much, you can sneak up on the fish and take their picture. Check out the Google MyMap below to see where the site is located and the best entry for diving and snorkeling. Click here for more pictures from K41

Thanks for linking this post to me @Nick-Hobgood , I am loving your photos!

K41 just made it to my list that’s for sure. I’ve never tried diving at night before, but I can imagine how it will add an even bigger thrill to the experience.
