Hi, dear friends!
I would like to share with you my experience of exploring Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
Quite unexpectedly for me, the country of the 2nd European Local Guides Meet-up was announced Belgium, the picturesque city of Ghent.
This became the perfect occasion to visit Belgium!
Thank you @JanVanHaver , the European Meet-up was announced in advance. There was an opportunity to plan everything, book a flight at a nice price and settle everything in order to enjoy the trip.
My plane from Kiev arrived to Brussels Airport. Naturally, I wanted to explore the Belgian capital!
I could spend only one day, half a day on the arrival day and time until lunch the next day. Upon arrival, I stayed in a hotel near the city center, not far from the Brussels-North railway station, since the next day I was to travel to Ghent to meet with my friends Local Guides.
I wanted to explore the historical center of the Brussels, visit the Grand-Place, see the Manneken Pis, walk along the old streets.
The magnificent Grand Place Square in the center of Brussels is majestic and elegant at the same time. Each building on this square is a real masterpiece of the Gothic art.
The beautiful medieval architecture of Brussels is fascinating! I can spend hours wandering around the old streets!
The walk gave me a lot of pleasure, although the weather was very changeable - the sun, then the rain.
I found here interesting street art, decorating the walls of the houses of Brussels. You can read my post Amazing Street Art in Brussels.
Manneken Pis is a small bronze statue-fountain as a naked boy who pisses into the fountain. It is a famous landmark in Brussels. There is an interesting tradition of dressing the Manneken Pis in different costumes.
Atomium is a 102-meter futuristic construction - an iron atom model enlarged 165 billion times, symbolizing the peaceful possibilities of the atomic age.
A visit to Atomium was scheduled the next morning. It is located away from the city center, I got there by tram. I planned to spend not a lot of time there, go upstairs, explore the surroundings, take photos and continue my journey further to Gent.
But Atomium turned out to be so interesting for me, even exciting, that I spent a good half of the day there and plan to write a post to this.
Dear friends, what do you think about a day trip?
Please, share with me your opinion.
Best wishes,
Jane
