Juicy Green Gems

I was going about my day, shopping for some groceries and my mouth watered at the sight of these. I took a picture and could not wait to share with you all!

In Nigeria, we call these green delights garden egg, but I’m aware that some countries call them eggplants. As with most vegetables, garden eggs have a long list of health benefits and is highly recommended for pregnant women as they contain an abundant amount of vitamins and other nutrients vital for pregnancy.

What do you call garden egg in your country?

Happy Friday!

I love garden eggs especially the greener ones. I bought some the last time we visited Utako Market!

Thanks for sharing!

@EmekaUlor You must have a strong taste bud! haha I prefer the ones that are lighter in colour.

@ChinonsoOnukwugha First I thought is a fruit, then after reading, I see it is a vegetable. In our country, we call it ‘Begun’. Another thing is the color of it is not like the ones you shared, it is like the pictures shown here. Though there is a similar color to yours one also available but not that much popular.

Curious what’s the price of it? I am always curious to know the price of things in another country. Because I want to compare it to my country.

Hi @SaifIS thanks for your response! I believe that’s the colour most are familiar with. I got that basket of garden egg at the market for 200 Nigerian naira (which is about 47 Bangladeshi taka at the bank rate). It will cost more at the retail price and possibly less at the non-bank exchange rate.

Wow! Then I must say the vegetable price is similar in both of our countries. Here now we buy at 50-60 per kg.

@ChinonsoOnukwugha Thank you for the info.
