Journey to the Centre of Ancient Benin Kingdom.

The King Square as it is popularly called is the Centre of the Ancient City of Benin. It is a very strategic place as it links all major roads in the city, that is: Sakponba Road, Sapele Road, Airport Road, Oba’s Palace, Oba Market Road, Mission Road, Forestry Road, and Akpakpava Road. The King’s Square has a very important role to play during the coronation ceremony of the Oba of Benin because takes place at the Urokpota Hall which is situated at the King’s Square. Benin City is known for its bronze casting since ancient times. This craftsmanship has been shown with different bronze plaque around the the Square. These are some of the the art work:
