A little bit of gratitude can go a long way. To celebrate the meaning of this saying, every year on September 21, World Gratitude Day brings people together, reminding them of the importance of being thankful. Research shows that practicing gratitude can extensively benefit our health and quality of life. It can enhance our social skills, improve our physical and psychological health, and boost our self-esteem. Expressing gratitude can add to your wellness and mindfulness routine, helping you appreciate what you have and feel happy in the process.
Fellow Google Moderators @BorrisS , @KlaudiyaG , and I would like to share with you some of the things we are grateful for and invite you to do the same.
** @BorrisS :**“Life is a journey, and there are a thousand things I could be grateful for. Most of all, I am grateful for having a loving family and growing up in the late 20th century. The 80s and the 90s were a period of change in various ways. People were introduced to the internet, and the email was starting to take the place of the handwritten letter. I am happy to have been a part of those times before computers, as I can better appreciate the advanced technologies today.
Moreover, having lived in Morocco, I’m grateful that it allowed me to learn both Arabic and French. The experience also opened my mind to a different world and taught me that beauty lies in diversity!”
** @TsekoV :**“One of the things I feel thankful for the most is that I am not alone. I’ve recently thought a lot about the importance of family, of having someone in my life, and, mostly, of building connections with those around me.
This year and the recent pandemic situation showed us that we need to rely on and support each other even more than before. Being part of the Local Guides community for a few years now has helped me to learn from others, see the world from different perspectives, and, most importantly, accept and love them all.
What I love about the program is the sense of belonging, like to a family, and that we are strong together. We know how to support each other and our local communities, and we are mindful of one another.
Besides this, I am thankful that I woke up this morning and that I have a whole new day to enjoy. I appreciate what nature has given us—a living world to preserve and not take for granted. In my opinion, there is something we should keep in mind: we can become better people by learning how to better appreciate the small, everyday things in our lives.”
** @KlaudiyaG :**“Over the years, I have found that I am bad at expressing gratitude. It’s probably because I am very emotional, and when people do something wonderful for me, I get so overwhelmed that I can’t explain with words how moved I am by their gesture. When @TsekoV reached out, asking if I wanted to share something I was grateful for, I jumped at the opportunity to challenge myself to overcome this.
I’m really grateful for being part of the Local Guides community and team. Through them, I have met so many beautiful people that helped me to grow as a person by teaching me about the world. I have made great friends along the way by doing what I love. Even though this year has been tough on many, I’m thankful that we as Local Guides continue forward even stronger than before.”
