JJ school of arts #Mumbai

The Sir JJ School of Art, also known as the Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art, is a premier fine art institution in Mumbai, India. It was founded in 1857 by Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy, a Parsi philanthropist, who donated a large sum of money to establish the institution. The school was initially known as the Bombay School of Art and was located in the Esplanade area of Mumbai.

The school started with three artistic disciplines: painting, sculpture, and architecture. In the early days, the school mainly focused on teaching the traditional styles of Indian art. However, with the arrival of European art teachers in the late 19th century, the school gradually started incorporating Western styles and techniques into its curriculum.

During the 20th century, the Sir JJ School of Art expanded its teaching programs and facilities, adding new specialties such as Applied Art, Textile Design and Fashion, Interior Decoration, and Metal Work. The school also started offering degree programs in Fine Arts, Applied Arts, and Architecture.

Over the years, the Sir JJ School of Art has produced many renowned artists, designers, and architects. Some of the notable alumni of the school include MF Husain, VS Gaitonde, SH Raza, and Arnab Goswami.

Today, the Sir JJ School of Art is recognized as one of the premier art schools in India and continues to play a crucial role in promoting and preserving the country’s artistic heritage.
