Mahabodhi Monastery, also known as Jai Siri Mahabodhi Vihara is a major cultural and religious centre. It’s located in the Bodh Gaya, Bihar State India. It can be accessed by all means like Rail, road and Air.
It was the first centre of Mahabodhi Society of India, which was established in 1891 by Sri Lankan Buddhist monk Anagarika. Its purpose was to re-establish the disappearing Buddhism in India. Buddhist monk Anagarika made all the followers of Buddhism aware of the fact that their religious heritage was being taken over by the Pandits.
To commemorate the 2550th Birthday of Lord Buddha sacred relics of Sakyamuni Buddha and Arihantas Sariputta and Maha Mogallana were enshrined in this Jay Sri Maha Bodhi Vihara by his highness 14th Dalai Lama in February 2007. Because of this this monastery is considered like a pilgrimage among the Buddhist.
