Jashn-e-Rekhta A festival of Urdu celebrating Hindustani culture

Jashn-e-Rekhta brings alive the splendour and rich heritage of Urdu through various genres including poetry, prose, drama, art and cinema, uniting enthusiasts of all age groups and backgrounds.

The three day festival celebrated annually in Delhi (I had attended 6th edition of Jashn-e-Rekhta at major dhyanchand stadium from 13-15 Dec 2019) in the month of December (for updated information you can simply visit website https://jashnerekhta.org/ ), showcases flavours from the literary and cultural universe of Urdu such as Mushairas, Qawwali, Dastangoi, sufi music, recitations, panel discussions and much more.

Entry at Jashn-e-Rekhta is free of cost however you can donate to rekhta foundation to make this event happen every year. If you’re interested in volunteering Jashn-e-Rekhta can can also do that but volunteering is totally unpaid and for that you have to fill form and than signatory person will decide based on your profile for volunteering. They provide certificate for volunteering service. Jashn-e-Rekhta provide free pick and drop facility from nearest metro station or location at regular time intervals.

There were four stages at Jashn-e-Rekhta for smooth conduct of all the performances as Mehfil.khana, Bazm-e-khayal, Dayaar-e-izhar and Sukhan-zaar. Stage will assigned to perfomers according to their popularity among people. The size and sitting capacity of each stage will be different.

There were various stalls are also available such as Bookbazaar, Rekhtabazaar, aiwan-e-zaiqa etc. Which sells painting, food and beverages, handicraft, books and chai.

آپ کی پوسٹ پر اردو کا نام دیکھ کر میں رک سا گیا اور سوچا کہ اس پوسٹ کو ضرور دیکھنا چاہیے ۔

میں بذات خود اردو کا ایک ادیب ہوں اور بچپن سے لکھنے کا شوق ہے ۔ اور یہاں کنیکٹ پر بھی کافی پوسٹس میں اردو میں تخلیق کر چکا ہوں ۔

بر صغیر میں اردو زبان کی اہمیت کسی سے ڈھکی چھپی نہیں ، غالب سے لے کر جاوید اختر تک ، اور میر سے لے کر احمد فراز اور انور مقصود تک خادمین اردو کی فہرست کافی طویل ہے ۔

دہلی میں اردو فیسٹیول کے بارے میں پڑھ کر بہت اچھا لگا اور بہت خوشی ہوئی کہ پورے پاک و ھند میں اردو کی ترویج کی کوششیں جاری ہیں ۔

I have attended 2 times Rekhta and feels that nothing is good than attending rekhta the way they manage things, the performances, the foods from every State, and panel discussions with eminent personalities makes my day.

Please visit rekhta event once if possible.

I wish I can attend it once in my life in Dehli :heart_eyes: but here I attended many Urdu Mela, Urdu Adab Festivals and Mushairaas in Karachi. Magar Dehli mai (Urdu adab ki jaye Paidaish per) ager mouqa kabhi mil jaye to kiya hee baat hey :heart_eyes:

Thank you for sharing your post with us @Anshu3 . The Urdu festival looks very interesting with many activities and a lot of things to buy and try. What drew my attention, of course, was the food court. Can you tell us a bit more about Urdu cuisine?

Thank you for your kind words.

I would like to tell you that urdu is a language and there is no any cuisines of Urdu. You will get urdu literature, books etc.

One more thing I would like to add that Biryani is very famous at Jashn-e-Rekhta and chiken shorba (both are not urdu cuisine but names in urdu and famous among Muslim community).

Hi @Anshu3 great post and event. I had no idea that delhi is still playing its important role regarding Urdu. No doubt that Urdu can play a bridging role between borders by which peace can prevaile in the region. Thanks for great sharing.

Yes,Delhi was fort of Urdu in past poet like galib and amir khusro lived there. And now again delhi has taken initiative to regain the popularity among common people’s and for that rekhta is doing great job.
