
This place was formerly known as "La Cruz del Rollo", because there was the jurisdictional Rollo of Linares (pointing out the end of Linares). When the Paseo began to be built around 1878, an open space (owned by the Marquises of Linares) was left just below where the Plaza de Toros had been erected. Even though a municipal Widening Plan destined this plot so that there would be houses, it will be the Marquises who decide to donate it to build a garden, asking for it to be called "Santa Margarita" (by the mother of the Marquis who was called Margarita). With project of the municipal architect Francisco de Paula Casado y Gómez, they will be inaugurated in 1890, being the most important donation in life of the Marquises. Around it will be born remarkable buildings such as the Casino "Olimpia" (disappeared) or the building of the Banco Español de Crédito (the 2nd branch in Spain and the 1st in Andalusia, unfortunately closed a few days ago forever...hopefully it will be given some future550×309 49.2 KB
