Japanese Film Festival 2019-20

Konichiwa !!

Indian Otakus were overwhelmed as the JFF was back with another year of Otaku paradise. The 10 days festival was scheduled with a total of 25 Japanese movies screening at 7 major cities of India for free.

I was overjoyed to attend the fest with my friends on the last day at the PVR Icon, Mumbai. It was my first time watching an anime movie in the theatres and I was glad it was a movie by Makoto Shinkai.

The two big hits by Makoto Shinkai - Your Name and Weathering With You were scheduled for the last day.

Being a Sunday and considering the popularity of the movies we knew that a lot of people were going to show up but the crowd we witnessed was way above our expectations.

We reached the venue 2 hours before the movie time and there were already 200 people waiting in the queue. We had no option but to join the queue with our fingers crossed hoping to get the entry pass. Also, we were happy to meet other Otakus and talk about our favorite animes and manga. People were wearing merch and dressed up as their favorite characters.

In the end, it was all worth it from standing in the line for hours to yelling at other people who were cutting the line. We finally got our entry passes !!

The cinema hall got full in no time and the people were full of excitement. The whole ambience of the place was very thrilling to experience.

Speaking about the movie I would say Mr. Shinkai never fails to leave an impact on you. It’s like going on an emotional rollercoaster ride full of laughter and crying. I would recommend watching both the movies it’s definitely worth anyone’s time.

The organizers were very kind and they gave us souvenirs to take back with us.

I would like to conclude by thanking the organizers of the Japanese Film Festival India and The Japan Foundation for reaching out to us fans and letting us enjoy the treasure of Japanese culture and art every year.

Hi @AtharvaTheExplorer ,

Wow that must’ve been a really cool experience! Are the movies subtitled? I also really enjoy Film Festivals as you can see such diverse and different movies. Here in my city, there is French Film Festival yearly, which I’ve been to and it’s quite amazing as well. How many movies did you see?

Thanks!

Yes @DanniS , the movies were showed with English subtitles. Sadly I got to watch only one movie as I came to know about the festival the day before its last day but I am happy as it was the movie I wanted.
