Japan Food - Part 2

Hello, Everybody! :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed:

Thank you for your good comments on my first post, I’m glad you like it or that the information could be useful to you.

Following the thread of the first one, I continue commenting some gastronomic places I visited during my trip to Japan, so here we go:

  • Name: Standing Sushi Bar Uogashi Nihon-ichi Atré Akihabara :sushi:
  • Address: Japan, 〒101-0021 Tokyo, Chiyoda City, Sotokanda, 1 Chome-17-6 アトレ秋葉原 1 :japan:

On a shopping spree in Akihabara, at about 8 o’clock at night I get hungry. As I was entering a building with several shops, I saw a small shop where people were standing eating sushi. The turnover was fast so it caught my attention and I saw that there was room to stand at the bar, so I didn’t hesitate too long.

In my case, the sushi felt pretty fresh. The taste was normal, good (it didn’t blow my mind either). What I liked most was having that experience since the process of asking the chef to prepare the sushi quickly in front of you and eat it standing up, is not experienced in many places haha.

The prices are per piece and they are cheap. The menu is totally in Japanese, but having the pictures, it was very easy to point out to the chef which ones he wanted and that’s it. It must have taken me 15 minutes to eat and recharge my energy, it was a good “technical” stop.

  • Name: Itsuki Garden :tea:
  • Address: 917 Tokiwa, Kamakura, Kanagawa 248-0022, Japan :japan:

In this case, the departure was in group (I shared 1 week with colleagues and then 2 weeks alone). After visiting the amazing Buddha of Kamakura, we continued walking until we found the beginning of a trekking trail with some temples along the way.

We thought it was a good idea to go up as we were quite energetic. As we went up the tiredness became a little evident until, at a high part of the trail, we saw a small sign that said COFFEE with an arrow. It definitely called our attention so we continued on this new path, the surprise was incredible. Like finding an oasis in the desert, we saw a coffee shop in the middle of all the forest and nature, as in a story.

There are several tables and each one has a spectacular view; it gives you the feeling that you are in a huge forest.

We only asked for a coffee/tea as we were not hungry, but if it was worth taking something to recharge a little energy. The attention was very good, but honestly it is in the background because the main prize was the location and the atmosphere.

Sorry about the photo of the cafe, I wasn’t that inspired at the time haha.

  • Name: Ichiran :fish_cake:
  • Address: Japan, 〒150-0041 Tokyo, Shibuya City, Jinnan, 1 Chome-22-7 岩本ビル B1F :japan:

Special mention to the best ramen I tried in Japan (in my opinion)!

Ichiran is a chain of restaurants specializing in Ramen, also one of the most famous in Japan.

Obviously the ramen was written down in my bucket list of meals as I was planning the trip, so I went with many expectations.

The Ichiran’s are VERY busy places, so it’s always crowded and it’s 95% likely that you’ll have to wait in line during normal meal times. When you are almost in the restaurant, you have a machine where you have to order and pay for what you are going to eat.

The guide is also in English so it is not that complicated. I recommend the “Set 5” which is the regular ramen, but with the additional toppings: boiled egg, mushrooms, pork and green onions. Once you have the ticket, a waitress gives you a paper to customize your order, from the amount of spice to the point of the noodles, salt, garlic, etc.

Once you sit down in one of the boxes (they are individual) from a small window the chef takes the paper and starts preparing the ramen. There is a small button so you can call him in case you want to order something else. Beyond the excellent that the ramen was, believe me, too tasty, the experience in general is another plus that adds several stars.

I didn’t record the whole process, but I recommend you to look for some video in YouTube to see the whole cycle.

Ichiran is in my top 3 of meals in Japan, no doubt it’s aMUST :bangbang: if you visit the Asian country.

Thanks for reading,

Gustavo.

Wah, mantap, mantap.

This is a great recommendation, @gmenteguiaga

Great story and beautifully captured, too. Espescially the ramen. Looks very tempting for me.

Thanks for sharing this

Hey @gmenteguiaga ,

I cannot wrap in words the excitement I felt when I saw your post and especially the part where you review Ichiran.

It is an absolute dream of mine to visit this solo booths restaurant. I’ve watched multiple videos from many food vloggers about the famous restaurant chain and the whole process of ordering, making and eating the Ramen served there.

Now you had me thinking of purchasing a plane ticket asap. Thank you for the amazing post. :]

Thanks @Deskata . You won’t regret at all!

For new yorkers or people visiting NYC. There is an Ichiran there as well, it was open in later 2019 I believe.
