Janjira Sea Food Resto & Bar – A Taste of the Coast in the Heart of Pune

During my visit to Pune last year, I discovered a seafood haven that instantly won my heart – Janjira Sea Food Resto & Bar, located in Kothrud, one of Pune’s bustling suburbs. Known for its authentic Malvani-style dishes, Janjira proudly carries the title of being Pune’s very first seafood restaurant, established in 1996.

:fish: First Visit – The Pomfret Thali Delight

My culinary journey began with their much-recommended Pomfret Thali. The pomfret was expertly marinated and shallow-fried with a crispy crust and a tender, juicy core. Alongside, I was served an array of flavorful accompaniments – spicy curry, solkadhi, dry prawn chutney, and piping hot rice and chapatis. It truly was a feast of flavors that lingered well after the meal.

:fried_shrimp: Second Visit – Bangda (Indian Mackerel) Thali & Tiger Prawns

On my next visit, I opted for the Bangda (Mackerel) Thali and a side of Tiger Prawns. The Mackerel was rich in spice and perfectly grilled, while the tiger prawns were large, succulent, and loaded with traditional coastal masala. The flavors reminded me of the seafood joints in Malvan and Mumbai – a nostalgic and authentic experience.

:fork_and_knife_with_plate: Ambience & Service

The restaurant maintains a clean and welcoming atmosphere suitable for families, solo diners, and seafood lovers alike. The service is prompt, and the staff are warm, attentive, and knowledgeable about the dishes. It’s clear that Janjira values not just taste, but also hospitality.

:round_pushpin: How to Reach Here

  • By Road: Janjira is located in Kothrud, easily accessible via Karve Road or Paud Road from any part of Pune. It’s well-marked on Google Maps.
  • By Public Transport: Multiple PMPML buses connect Kothrud with key areas like Swargate, Deccan, and Shivajinagar. Auto-rickshaws and cabs are readily available too.
  • By Metro (Upcoming): Once Pune Metro’s Vanaz-Ramwadi line is fully operational, Kothrud will be even more convenient to access. Nearest Working Metro is Anand Nagar and Ideal Colony.

:wheelchair_symbol: Accessibility accessibility

  • Parking: The restaurant has street-side and limited off-road parking. Two-wheeler parking is easier than four-wheelers.
  • Wheelchair Access :wheelchair_symbol: : The entrance is at ground level, but it’s advisable to call ahead if you have specific accessibility needs, as some branches may vary slightly.
  • Seating & Space: Tables are arranged with decent spacing, and the environment is quiet and comfortable for senior citizens and families.

:star: Final Thoughts

For anyone visiting Pune and looking for authentic seafood, Janjira Sea Food Resto & Bar should be on your list. Whether it’s the crispy pomfret or the fiery tiger prawns, every dish reflects a love for coastal cuisine. With decades of experience and unmatched flavor, Janjira stands tall among Pune’s food legends.
