Jaisalmer journey is one of the best memoir we had in January end in 2019. It was a wonderful trip as we traveled for 22 days to explore the ancient heritage and ancient cultures.
Jaisalmer Fort was built by Rao Jaisal on a triangular hill known as Trikuta hill in 1156 AD. On his name it was named Jaisalmer. It is situated on the ancient trade route. The security system of this fort is very excellent. There are four main gates for entering this fort. This fort had about 95 posts for external security. For internal security, large circular stones were placed on the roofs till the entrance of the palace, which can be seen even today. Within this fort there are Raj Mahal Royal residence, havelis houses of rich merchant and Ministers, houses and many temples. All are spectacular because of their Architecture and intricate carvings. The rain water was taken out of the fort through Garh Nallah so that the fort should not be damaged. Mortar was not used in the construction of this fort. This fort built of yellow stone is a world heritage. And even today people live in this fort. It’s also known as Sonar Qila and Golden Fort due to the very unique kind of Stone Colour which is yellow as Lion and Tigers are having and after little shower it turned to gold.
For its renovation many organisations and individuals have funded like Jaisalmer Jeopardy UK, Leslie Forbes, The Staple Trust, David and Polly Gilmour, Kiki Siddiqi, Julle Green etc. Their significant contribution towards the restoration of this City was acknowledged by HH The Maharawal of Jaisalmer. Last ruler was the Maharawal Jawahir Singh when it was a Princely State before freedom. Still it’s managed by the Royal family and Government.
It’s a major attraction among the history buffs wanderers soulseekers heritage art and architecture lovers. It needs five hours to visit the major attractions located within the fort.
