It's the "Good Friend Badge"! I feel like an Army General!!

I feel like an Army General on reception of my 7th badge! Also, I am grateful that my badge comes in my most favorite shape in the world!

I received the Good Friend Badge today and I couldn’t but travel back in time…

Reminiscing…

Some time in 2010, I was visiting my Partner on one of the Nigerian Army Military Barracks. He was a Major at the time.

With awe, I watched the dedication with which he ironed his Military Uniform and I thought he was either obsessed or out rightly crazy!

He spent two hours Ironing his uniform and one hour polishing his boots!!! :astonished: :astonished:

I was surprised because I realized that; his Colleagues had Soldiers at their ‘beck and call’ to do their bidding!

So, I asked him why he spent so much time ironing his uniform and why he had to do it himself. He told me in ‘his usual calm tone’; “Did you see the Soldiers at the entrance of the barracks?” I nodded in acknowledgment. He asked; “did you see their uniforms?” I nodded again.

He sat back and told me; “there is no difference between this Uniform and theirs. Everyone in the Military receives the same Uniform. However, what makes it look different are; 'the badges, the ranks, the insignia, the lanyard and other military paraphernalia’ added to them”. He continued; “However, what makes you look different is how well you take care of your uniform!” :grinning:

Of course, I never bothered to ask him again! After all, I wasn’t the one expending 3 hours on looking good.

He passed away in 2018 in an IED explosion orchestrated by the Boko Haram Insurgent Army at Sambisa forest, Borno State, Nigeria. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Nigerian Army and one of the Commanding officers at the Operation against the Boko Haram Insurgent Army and their legacy.

Today, I received the “Good Friend” badge and I couldn’t but remember the One who converted this introverted (especially Socially) person to this exuberant person that can chat and chat on ‘Connect’ all day long.

What hurt have you experienced that is making you to be grumpy, that is not making you to ‘connect’ with others?

If I can achieve this, so you can! Give as much love as possible, it will erase your pain and instill positive happy thoughts!

I am very grateful to the Google team for awarding me this badge! My people will say; "Ile ise yin o ni jo n’na o, Owo yin a maa roke o" which literally translates to; "your company will not burn and you will continue to attain greater heights.

Thank you Google! Thank you to all the amazing Local Guides who share great content that I like; majorly ‘Photographs’, food :see_no_evil: , heart-warming or insightful comments, tips and some other miscellaneous selections.

I am grateful to you for this and many more that will come.

Thank you.

Please what do you mean by special?

Hello, congrats your Badge @Ewaade_3A . Wishing you to earn more Badges to be looking like real Army General. As I am a retired military man who served a 21 Ys, in different countries ( NATO ), ( peace maker forces) in former Yugoslavia…etc. I liked this story you mentioned about military time. Still wondering how they allowed you to enter a military unit since you were civilian !! Specially you were looking at them polishing shoes and …etc :sunglasses: .

Respectfully :+1:
