I was a waitress for several years at a restaurant that’s on beautiful Kentucky Lake (where I live). This restaurant I worked at was accustomed to not just tourists but our many of locals ate there and of course our regulars. Every Sunday morning two local business owners who own a very cool family fun place came in to our restaurant and ate breakfast (I still remember what they both always ordered to drink, ha). One Sunday morning after I sat their drinks down and told them to help themselves to the buffet and before I walked off they told me they wanted to think me for the nice review, and for a minute I was a little confused and thought to myself “what review?” They told me they were beyond thrilled to see the photos I had posted on Google maps and how much they appreciated the thoughtful and we’ll written review I had left. It dawned on me what they were talking about…For my daughter’s birthday a few weeks before that I had taken her and friend there and we all three had an amazing time, the staff was just wonderful and especially with the kids, it was an overall wonderful experience and so that night I decided to post some of the photos and write about my excellent experience because this place was relatively new and I thought maybe someone will see this and decide to go based on either my photos or review (literally thinking maybe 2 or 3, maybe 5 tops) and I really wanted folks to know just how much fun this place was and how the customer service couldn’t have been more spectacular. These two gentleman proceeded to tell me that thousands of people had seen my glowing review and photos and not just local people but folks from 4 and 5 hours away and that was the deciding factor on choosing the Kentucky Lake Area for vacation and of course had gone to spend a day or two at the family fun for everyone as well. I just couldn’t hardly believe what these gentleman were telling me. When I got off work that day, first thing I did was get on Google maps and see if this was true and sure enough I had thousands of views of my photos which in itself was shocking to me. It wasn’t long after that I became a local guide and now I’m a level 7 local guide. As of today I’ve had over a million views of photos which just blows my mind!! I realized that day that the things we post here on Google maps truly makes a difference in the world in a way that’s even hard for me to wrap my mind around. I truly love posting each and every photo and writing descriptive and thoughtful reviews of the places I go and especially here in my hometown. It means something to me that I can truly help my small town of Calvert City, KY near beautiful Kentucky Lake in the farthest region of Western Kentucky become more than just a dot on the map. Knowing I could actually be doing something that has meaning that is actually making a difference in lives of people all over the world and especially for the small business owners and small towns everywhere is why I love being local guide. Thank you for letting me share my story
