"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door, there's no knowing what food you could eat."

So perhaps Bilbo did not quite say it that way, but the perils of bad food is dangerous indeed.

In applying for a chance to be at Connect Live 2019, I was asked to share what I love sharing most on Google Maps and why. It’s a simple question with an even simpler answer: Food reviews. I am on a mission to save the world from bad food.

As a Malaysian, we live to eat. No Malaysian ever will tell you “No, I’m not a foodie.” Those who do are Singaporean, actually.

(I joke, it’s a running gag between Malaysia and Singapore for which country has the best food.)

So everywhere I go to eat, I pretty much upload a review and tonnes of foodpics. I can’t help it. There is something about sitting down to a meal, whatever that may be --vegan, gluten-free, carnivorous-- with friends and family and yes, even complete strangers, and the connection you share in that few hours.

It creates lasting friendships, and in my case, it even led me to the love of my life – my boyfriend of 3 years now-- as we joked about how he accidentally forgot to pay for a cuppa coffee at the cafe where we had our first date. Having croissants and coffee on the balcony of his flat in London remain my fondest memories of us, and the way he sweated over super-spicy (for him!) Malaysian chicken curry on our second date still makes me smile.

Memories are created over food, and good food makes it even better. It really makes me happy to think that somewhere out there, a couple is looking for a place to have a nice meal, and they read a review of mine, and they choose to go there and create memories of their own.

Yeah, I’m weird like that, but hey, we are all weirdos anyway.
