Let me tell you about how it all started, While I were on a trip to Cairo, I was running out of gas, I’ve searched for the nearest gas station and started navigating to the location, after 25 minutes driving I found no gas station!! That was very disappointing especially after driving all day long. Knowing how much it’s irritating to navigate to a false location and waste your time and gas, I decided that I want to correct this misleading information on Google maps, after few easy steps on Google maps app on my mobile phone I reported the situation, after one day Google sent me an email informing me that my edit on Google maps is now live, after I received this mail I was very delighted that other people won’t be misled by this false location as I did and I Became more excited to contribute more and help other people. I started adding new places & photos for it, after that Google maps sent me emails informing me how many people I’ve helped, which encouraged me to add new places.
The local guides program means a lot to me, it is a perfect way for making our life easier, saving time & money. When I’m going to meet someone, instead of him telling me the address or telling me the directions to his location on a phone call, he just simply send me his location on Google maps. Also sharing a live location is very helpful with family members for meeting up, security and emergency situations. No more going to false locations and spending a lot of time searching for a certain shop or place. No more wasting time & money going into wrong directions.
When I visited European companies like Germany, I have found that - unlike in Egypt - all the information on Google maps were very accurate, location of shops, companies, working hours, public transportation with the real timing and driving directions. It was very reliable. I remember the first time I visited Prague, It was a 1 day trip from Dresden-Prague-Dresden, I made a plan for the day using only Google maps, including all the transportation & places to visit. That day I visited the amazing Prague castle, Dancing House, Astronomical Clock and the head of Franz Kafka
It worth mentioning, that day, things went according to plan as precisely expected and thanks to Local guides program and thanks to the amazing Local guides in Prague. That encouraged me to go to another trip to Berlin after 1 week.
I wish that in the near future, Google maps in Egypt becomes as accurate and reliable as countries like Germany, Belgium and developed countries so people can rely on it more effectively. That means a great effort for our Local Guides Team and the Local Guides program as well.
