Hi everyone! I am having an issue with a review not showing if I am logged out of my account. I cannot understand if I have violated the policy somehow. Could anyone help???
Please see below:
I visited the restaurant on March 4th 2023, a party of two people through the Dine Athens initiative. This presents you with an opportunity to dine on a set menu with a reduced price. In the case of Soil restaurant this special menu is very similar to the normal degustation menu they offer. Upon arrival, we were taken on a quick tour of the building and past the kitchen where we were greeted by the staff. We were seated and asked if we wanted the Dine Athens menu as is, or opt for add ons. If you select all the add ons, the cost more than doubles and brings it on par with two Michelin restaurants. However, this does not go hand in hand with the decor e.g. the tables reminded me those of your neighborhood cafe, and the service. Although the service was professional, it did not feel organic like in other top restaurants. Additionally, there was no attention to detail. We happened to drop some sauce and breadcrumbs on the table and noone bothered to clean it until we left. Please note this is one Michelin star restaurant we are talking about. On top of that, I asked for the wine list and before I could even take a look and decide, the first course arrived. I knew it was a two hour seating beforehands but I got a sense they wanted to feed us and walk us out the door as soon as possible. In no way did I feel welcome. The fast pace of the courses did not help either. Regarding the food, my personal highlights were: the peas, the squid and the macaron. On the other hand the scallop needed more acidity as it left a very salty afterstaste, the bread was very buttery and was served with more even more butter, the goat was chewy and the waffle with the carob did not present any innovation. I see the sustainability on the menu but nothing wowed me. Although not bad, I would probably not go back.
