Growing up in Calgary, AB, Canada, I had always heard people say how bored they were and that there was nothing to do in Calgary. When non-locals asked what they can do if they visit Calgary, people would say:
“Just go to Banff, there’s nothing to do in Calgary.”
That was always very depressing to hear.
As a city with over 1 million people, how could there be nothing to do? So I set out to find fun and interesting things to do in Calgary.
That’s how I started contributing to Google Maps.
I’ve discovered great restaurants, cafes, photo spots, and places for activities & entertainment and documented them all through reviews and photos. I love sharing the places I visit on maps because, by doing so, I can help others discover aspects of the city that they never knew about.
With maps in hand, if I ever hear someone say there is nothing to do in Calgary again, I can show them my contributions to shut them up.
Here are some of my favorite places in Calgary:
Central Library
The Central Library has something for everyone. Books, food, coffee, art, photography, you name it. It is a place that brings the community together.
Fairmont Palliser Hotel
This is a very aesthetically pleasing hotel with great spots for photos.
Blink Restaurant & Bar
This restaurant has great food & wine. I also love the window spot for taking photos.
Rundle Ruins
These remnants of a building from Calgary’s past is now a popular photo spot.
Wonderland Sculpture
This public art display of a girl’s head in downtown has really brought people together. Keep your head up!
Analog Coffee
Not only can you get great coffee here, there is also a cool mural in the back of the cafe as well.
Alloy Restaurant
A very romantic restaurant to take your loved one.
Rainbow Bridge
A bridge in Sunnyside that is perfect for showing your pride!
I urge everyone to just get out and explore! There are lots of things waiting for you!
