Is there a sea in Belarus? ? Don’t hurry with answer.
Let me introduce you our Belarussian Sea: Minsk Sea ?.
Of course it’s not a sea in the strict meaning of the word and has nothing to do with real seas. This sea is handmade, the water in it is fresh and it’s real name is Zaslawskaye Reservoir. But how pleasant is it in hot summer weather! Like a real sea ?!
It was created in 1956 on the place of swampy floodplain of the Svisloch, Vyacha, Ratomka and Chernyavka rivers to avoid flooding of Minsk and create an additional sanatorium zone near Minsk. Now Zaslawskaye Reservoir is the second largest artificial reservoir in Belarus. The length of the reservoir is more than 9 kilometers, with a width of 4.5 kilometers, the area covers about 27 square kilometers, and the maximum depth is about 8 meters. The coastline is 55 km long. The water of reservoir now serves people: there is a hydroelectric power station, a reservoir is of great importance for supplying the city with water and affects the water-natural balance of the territory. It is part of the Minsk-Vileika water system.
I will focus my story namely on recreation. It’s the main what people know about Minsk Sea.
So, if you want to find a calm place close for nature or if you want to find a crowdy place with disco; if you like lying and sunbathing in the sun or if you like an active leisure; if you look for chargeless place or the full comfort - here you are!
The main place where people go sailing in Belarus is the Minsk Sea. There are many modern yacht clubs, where you can just go sailing as a tourist, learn to sail, watch or take part in competitions that take place here at regular intervals.
Athletes are trained here and athletic competitions are often held in rowing and canoeing, and even fishermen compete in fishing for peaceful fish. For recreational fishing there are also specially designated places where you can catch perch, ruff, roach, pike, bleak, etc.
On the coast of the Zaslavsky reservoir, there are about 10 beaches with well-groomed territory - lawns and clean sand. Each beach has its own free public toilet, locker rooms, parking lots, cafes and restaurants. A lot of entertainment is provided on the shoreline of the reservoir, you can play volleyball, ride water bikes, yachts in the Minsk Sea, learn how to windsurf or take a boat or boat trip. Also, for lovers of water walks, the opportunity to ride a catamaran or a jet ski is provided. In the dark, vacationers can dance in open-air discos, enjoy fireworks and fiery performances.
