Is it safe to travel in China ? Visiting 10 different provinces in China in two months

I visited China for the first time in 2013, and since then, I have been returning to China every year and staying for two months at a time. We last visited China in April of 2019, and my wife and I traveled through 10 different provinces. Starting from the south in Xiamen, we slowly made our way through Fujian, Wuyishan, Anhui, Shanghai, Nanjing, Zhangjiajie, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xian, Luoyang, and Beijing.

We traveled for two months and moved from province to province. We did some planning in advance, but most of the bookings of the hotels and our transportation were made on the go. We were fortunate enough to use the highspeed rail system, which is so well-built, and the infrastructure allows for seamless travel from one place to the next. We end up flying to Zhangjiajie since there was not a convenient highspeed train ride. I am sure next time I go to visit in 2020, they would have it in place, and the train would be going there as well.

Traveling in China is never easy. Not speaking Mandarin fluently when visiting China could propose a lot of challenges, especially when you are visiting small and or remote places. Don’t expect people to know English. In fact, I was told that " Chinese is becoming the new world language and everybody should speak Chinese, not English!" Maybe this is what the future for us, still, I did not dare to argue with the driver who was taking us back to our hotel. Tired of a day of hiking in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, Zhangjiajie, I just wanted to take some rest.

China offers a very diverse terrain with a lot of natural wonders, and it is great to visit and enjoy the glorious nature. My observation was that traveling in China is much overlooked, and most of the places that we visited, I was probably the only foreign tourist. I am adding a photo from the trip below. This is one of my favorite pictures that we took while in Zhangjiajie.

I will be sharing more stories from our trip to China this past Summer.

Hey @Travelogion ,

Many thanks for sharing this post! It is really amazing to learn how much you travel and explore the world. I believe we all can learn a lot from travelling and seeing other people’s culture and discovering how mesmerizing our world is. I share your love for travelling and try to do it as much as I can for the time being.

I loved reading your post about China and all of these wonderful places that you visited! I was fortunate to have the chance to study there for 3 years and managed to see quite many places. The photo that you shared must be taken somewhere in the mountains of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, isn’t it?

Here is a photo that I captured one early morning when visiting there, just before heading for the hiking of this marvelous place.

P.S.: As you are into travelling, I suggest you to take a look at some articles that you might find interesting What’s your dream vacation itinerary? and Local Guide shares her best advice for solo travelers. Looking forward to hearing more of your great stories!

Dear @TsekoV ,

Thank you for sharing your travel experience with me. I appreciate it. Yes, the image that I posted is from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. We spent a few days touring the area, and we really loved it. Where in China did you go to school? I love traveling throughout China and visiting different provinces. It is a truly multicultural melting pot, and one can learn a lot about life in general.

I totally agree with you about China, @Travelogion . Being there one can learn a lot.

As for the world-famous Avatar mountains, the whole area there is just magnificent. When I traveled there, I managed to visit the Tianmen mountain, another famous spot where you can admire the beauties of our world. When I visited it was a bit rainy and one could see lots of mists that add to a little bit of magic feeling to the whole scenery. Did you go there as well?

I spent three years in Beijing and throughout this time also had the chance to go here and there. I loved the idea of just taking the train and going somewhere and seeing the life of local people.
