I think Google has used its Maps to build the ultimate global public square. Like the quote attributed to Fred R. Barnard, “A picture is worth ten thousand words.” As powerful as words are, I believe nothing captures my environment more than carefully-composed photos. To me, taking a photo, uploading it to Google Maps with the possibility of millions of people seeing that photo is a great privilege, especially when that photo has the potential of actively helping people. I love the fact that each photo I share on Google Maps goes a long way to open up my local environment for discovery, especially those relating to local business. This is good for the local economy, whether it is coffee shops, restaurants or grocery outlets. I also love to show places that have stories and unique history behind them - or simply places for walking or hiking such as the local National Park or Botanical Garden. The “global public square” created by Google is a place to keep on sharing inspiring photos and reviews to keep bringing people together. I love being part of this special community.
