Have you ever been lost in a city, which is not your home city? Sometimes even an unfamiliar district of your home city would do to feel out of your comfort zone. Or be a first step in your new adventures towards discovering great places.
I started using Google Maps with its basic function of finding my way to the right address and looking for exciting (and sometimes not so well known) sightseeing spots while travelling. In addition, I was searching various internet resources for useful tips or reviews from experienced travellers in order to have a glimpse on the local way of life. Yes, I’m not a fan of mainstream tourism and good but soulless service seems too boring to me.
Therefore insider experience people share on Google Local Guides is a valuable resource. It helps feeling a local spirit wherever you go, if that’s what you are looking for. Easy-to use app and friendly people of this community encouraged me to join and start sharing local information, which could be useful for other users.
Lessons learned so far:
- In case you are thinking if you can do it and if anybody will be need it – just give it a try. Sharing is both useful and fun and you can always find topics that you love or choose from various contribution activities to start with J
- Don’t worry about being subjective or imperfect. It’s your opinion and your unique experiences that you are sharing. Of course, you should be honest about facts and use “I don’t know” button, if that’s the case. E.g. answering questions with details about places you have been.
- “Picture is worth a thousand words” approach works here as well. Therefore do not forget to take pictures and add them to the information you are sharing.
