Israel is a crossroads in many aspects. It sits on the seam between the three continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. Therefore It is possible to find geographic components of all three continents.
But alongside this beauty, there are also difficult challenges. The eastern border of Israel is the Syrian-African rift. A geological fault that connects the Asian plate to the African plate. Therefore every few years the area is interrupted by a major earthquake.
Although the last significant earthquake was felt almost 100 years ago, less than a week ago, there was a relatively unusual earthquake in the region, originating from Mediterranean region and not in the rift zone.
Some experts warn that this is a bad omen, but other experts do not attribute any importance to the quake.
Whether this is dangerous or not, Israel takes seriously the issue of earthquakes. Israel carries out projects on a national scale to strengthen buildings and define infrastructure standards to reduce damage to property and to the soul in case of an earthquake. Israel also has trained personnel in the rescue of trapped people who have already assisted in international missions to disaster areas such as the earthquake in Haiti and last year’s mud flood in Brazil.
It seems that those who take advantage of the earthquake to make more money are only the companies that offer insurance against earthquakes.
