The world around us, and on Google Maps, is ever-changing. With so much evolving in recent months, it can be hard to keep up with what’s going on in your community. That’s why we’re happy to introduce an even easier way to see what’s going on in your neighborhood (and pretty much any place you’re looking at on Maps).
When you open the Explore tab on the Google Maps app in the coming weeks, you’ll see a new feed of fresh, relevant information about what’s happening in your community. Within this new experience, you’ll find photos and reviews from Maps users and Local Guides like you in addition to updates from local businesses and news sources.
This also offers a new place where your recommendations can be seen on Google Maps. Since Local Guides are some of the most in-the-know contributors on the Map, you might be wondering how to get featured here instead of how to discover new things in your community. (After all, you might already know the latest yourself!) Contributions are featured in the new feed based on a number of factors like how high-quality photos are and how helpful written reviews are.
We’ll be sharing more tips and best practices for quality reviews in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, here are some things to keep in mind. Reviews should be as descriptive as possible and photos should be well-lit, focused, and clearly showcase what you’re reviewing.
Ready to check out this new feature on Google Maps? To get started, simply open Google Maps on your mobile device and tap on the Explore tab. If you don’t see it yet, check back later. The community feed is starting to roll out globally for everyone this week on Android and iOS. Download the latest version of Google Maps to see your community feed.
We can’t wait to hear what you think about the new community feed! If you’ve tried it already, let us know in the comments below.
Looking forward to seeing this update soon! Always interested in the latest changes and enhancements to GMaps. Have seen information from local businesses featured in the Explore tab (as seen below) and can’t wait to see the new iteration that will include a variety of inputs. Thanks, @TiffanyBnyc !
This is a great way of discovering new places around us. I´ll be waiting for those tips, they will help a lot of Local Guides to improve quality of our contributions.
All great enhancements however what’s missing is facilities to allow for the proper management of captions and, as I and others have repeatedly mentioned here on Connect, this has to start by making it easier for us Local Guides to add and edit photo captions on both desktop and mobile. Providing this is the first step and then displaying the captions instead of the “Photo 1 of n” type default captions is the next.
Very interesting feature it should be e very informative and informative I will definitely go through with this most awaited feature it must be really helpful to all local guides thanks a lot @TiffanyBnyc for sharing with u
I am looking forward to this new way of adding new places. There are still new businesses that still need to be added on maps in my town. Thank you @TiffanyBnyc
