We’re excited to continue our Ask a Googler series with our next guest, someone you all are likely very familiar with…Traci Cappiello! @TraciC is a Program Manager for the team and an avid Local Guide (Level 10!) herself. In honor of Connect’s birthday, Traci will join us to talk all things Local Guides and help us celebrate the past five years on Connect.
With this series, Local Guides like you get an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at what we work on at Google. If you missed our other posts, you can check out more information on Ask a Googler here and read our Q&As from previous guests like Capella Yee and Ishwar Dhanuka here.
Traci will be on hand to answer questions about anything related to the Local Guides community, the Local Guides Connect forum, her personal experience as a Local Guide, and more.
If you could ask her directly about these things listed above, what would you ask? We know great minds think alike, so if a fellow Local Guide has already asked a question you had in mind, please tap the “like” (heart button) so we can see that there is more interest around that topic.
Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate every single question submitted, but please feel free to ask your questions in the comments and we will answer all that we can. It’s also possible that your question could be used in a future post on Connect, so don’t be shy.
Have a question for Traci? Leave your questions in the comments section below before the end of the day on Monday July 19!
My question: How do you feel Today at _Connect’s Birthday a_s a top Leader of Connect? I feel so happy being a proud member of Connect forum! Pls reply me with some experience.
Today I celebrate Connect’s Birthday with Joy and much fun too! Also I posted a topic regarding this celebration!
Now THIS is a birthday surprise, @KatieMcBroom ! This will be another great edition featuring @TraciC and while there are tons and tons of questions I’d like to ask, I would ask Traci:
Considering this is the 5th year of Local Guides Connect and we’ve seen a number of great additions and enhancements tying to the IRL Local Guides experience, where do you see LGC in another 5 years and what are your biggest hopes for LGC in 2026?
Great opportunity to ask directly to Tracy, although she is always open to answer questions in the forum.
Question
Considering the new world reality, where the presencial meetings are being reduced everywhere cause the known problem, are you evaluating another option to continue with meetings such Connect Live for example?
Traci is so important to our Community. If this community had a foundation stone, maybe Traci will be one of them. Traci is on hand almost everytime to cheer us up and to enliven the atmosphere, all these she does with ‘no air’. I remember seeing a photo of Nyai and Traci in a Tub or something FROM Connect Live and Nyai hinted that Traci had asked for ‘Crazy photos’
What can I possibly ask Traci?
What is that one thing that a Local Guide can do that is sure to get them kicked out of this community without much ado? Someone got kicked out recently, I only found out after the person made a comment on my Meetup post on Instagram. and the only person I asked did not have an answer that was satisfactory to me. This can happen again, so, can we maybe have an insight
P. S. -
I hope you (Traci) never leave our community. We and our community is like a baby, a Pet Project and we feel all your love and support from this end and on Maps too.
If you ever have to leave, are there plans of getting anyone who will be remotely like you to fill up the space of Program manager, is the person under training?
You are simply unforgettable and even when you are here we are missing you, please don’t break our hearts or at least, prepare us for it…
Surprise !!! This is a nice birthday gift for us on connect to be asking @TraciC herself. We do appreciate this opportunity as she has been on connect with us and quite active.
My first question is ;
For the large volume of posts, pictures etc that passes through connect everyday, how do you cope especially with the technical aspect of managing it to ensure that the forum continues to run smoothly?
I have been contributing to the maps for sometime before I stumbled on connect last year, and I see some local guides have the same experience. Therefore, what awareness is created to ensure that local guides in the world at large discover or are aware of the connect forum?
What’s your highest contribution on the maps?
Happy 5th anniversary and thanks for being our guest for this time.
Thank you so much @KatieMcBroom for this awesome opportunity to ask questions directly to Program Manager @TraciC Ma’am.
I m Zuhra Lucie from Nairobi Kenya, and I have some questions regarding Local Guides Community in my City, I hosted 3 meet-ups there, but after a long wait, no one appeared in this meet-up, so I want to ask that
How important is to create a Local Guide Community in any area or city ? And how we can create it ? Can you share some tips ? Thanks .
And also I have some more questions in my mind regarding women oriented businesses.
Like
I want to write a feature about a lady, she have a moving food stall here (but normally we see it a specific place and She bring back her business stall at night) in Nairobi from past 20 years. But I read on connect that we cannot add moving stalls on Google maps, that’s why I didn’t tried it yet. So is it ok if I will write a post about her business, but her business is not showing on Google maps?
And last but not the least :
How does it feel to you personally seeing this global family of local guides connect expanding day by day, Despite the world wide pandemic and it’s effects?
Because for me, I feel and learned by this family that success is not all about gaining always, but how much difference we make to the betterment of our community. Thank you.
Tracy what if a friend were to ask is local guide would you would recommend people who are interested in traveling and but dose not want to join connect??
It’s good opportunity to ask our True STAR of all Guiding Stars who is really inspiring us to contribute more & more to help the people with the spirit of love. @KatieMcBroom I would like to get a chance to ask our @TraciC Ma’am a lovely question to know -
Traci Ma’am, how you measure the importance to write a review to a Business and what would be the good and helpful format to follow as a LOCAL GUIDE?
